Old Bug
The online resource for VW beetle enthusiasts

Snow-Volks - I love this photo. This 1958 Volkswagen Beetle was designed to travel over Antarctic landscapes -- skis in the front with dual Chevron snow tires in the rear. Later, they used wide paddle bladed steal rear wheels; but the tire configuration worked better in certain snow conditions. Parker B. Mudge started building the Snow-Volks in 1964 in New Zealand with plans for use in the Antarctic. I believe they did finally get there; however, I could not find a follow up article. If you have additional information please let me know. -Rich
